I studied creative dance with my mother as a child. As a young woman I studied modern dance and worked in an experimental dance company. I stopped dancing for many years due to physical injury. During this period I became a maternal/child nurse. My work led me to study the fundamental issues of human engagement and organization of essential basic functions. My focus for many years was feeding and attachment. While continuing to work in this field I re-entered the world of movement for healing and expression. My experience is that movement is the vehicle for healing, learning and discovery. I became a Body-Mind Centering Practitioner in 2000. To develop a clearer spatial awareness, movement intention and dynamics I trained as a Laban/Bartenieff Movement Anaylist.
These approaches became the a foundation for supporting whole body vocal work and performance. I have worked with Barefoot Opera from its beginnings, experimenting with and developing these approaches. I am currently in a Feldenkrais training program and am certified to teach Awareness Through Movement lessons. Movement difficulties, physical limitations and restrictions in expression are part of a continuum of each individuals unique response to meeting their life. Awareness of our personal habits and strategies on all levels leads to new ways of finding support and freedom.
